![]() It's a bit like someone asking how to buy something on eBay, us telling them how you go about doing it and then them coming back complaining that we didn't tell them what item to buy. I haven't passed my mind reading test yet, and I couldn't use my crystal ball because it was charging. I do not know what commands the OP (you?) wished to execute after that, and the answer for that is quite simple: The question was "how do I point Terminal to a folder?" to which the answer is drag the folder in to the Terminal window and then let go of the mouse key or trackpad (something you apparently were unable to do correctly, as you present in your later posts) which will result in the folder path being inserted directly there for you. are you really the OP using another username? Have you just exposed yourself as using duplicate sock puppet accounts? Tut tut.Įven if you were the OP, I still wouldn't have told you to use the CD command anyway, because that wasn't the answer to the question. I answered the OPs' question, because, uh, they were the OP, and the one who asked the question. How about because you're not the OP and you didn't ask a question.? How can I answer you, when you haven't asked anything. Why didn't I tell you to use the CD command? Oh, and I dind't get a green circile with a plus sign. If others understood what I was on about and advised me to use the cd command, how come you didn't. Seems like you're protesting just a little too much. ![]() It's a bit like me asking what piece of software I need to write an essay on the computer, and then coming back and saying "guys, I've opened Microsoft Word and a blank page just comes up, there is no essay in it?" I've personally not known any piece of technology that can actually reliably read minds, I'm not sure why Terminal would be any different in this regard. So it can't read your mind and execute whichever command you want it to on your behalf - but I'm not sure it's supposed to. Dragging the folder in to Terminal does this - they made no mention of what commands they wished to execute on the folder.ĭragging a folder in to a Terminal window will automatically copy the exact/correct path to the folder, wherever it lies, in to the Terminal window. Note: For better result use absolute path. The ampersand & is used so the process get start into the background and we can continue to use the shell or terminal without waiting for script to get finished. OP asked how to point Terminal to a folder. To open a Directory or Folder from terminal. It seems yo don't quite know what you think you know, so I bed you to stop posting here until you have sought professional advice. I did that, and completed the task I wanted to complete. What does do the trick is to write 'cd', then drag the folder into the window and place it after the command. I'm not actually a complete idiot in these matters as you imply, and I can tell you the merely dragging the folder into the terminal window (as I tried to do before posting) doesn't do the trick.
